This dance is an inner/outer journey of moving meditation. It is a letting go of self-imposed ideas that restrict movement and is an opening to new ways of expression with the body through motion. It develops a direct body-spirit connection in dance. Let your body and inner guide be your teachers. This is about being present with your own energy and discovering your own dance within. Use this movement and energetic experience to release stuck patterns in body, emotions, mind and spirit.
No dance experience or partner necessary. Perfect for those who think they "can't dance" and for experienced dancers alike. This is free-form, not a structured dance. This is also not a social dance. It is an environment without observers or conversation, where dancers can feel safe to try new things and really push the envelope. It is lightly fascilitated with an invitation to apply patterns of movement to selected areas of life. Much of the time it is open dance floor for you to explore different rhythms, patterns of movement and inner journey.
The environment for this movement is called "The Energetic Container". It fosters both a deep inner journey in moving meditation and high-energy, dancing extroversion. It spawns a space for freedom for both body and spirit. The experience can be one of good exercise, emotional changes, heart openings, alter states of consciousness and/or just plain fun. This dance is meant as a doorway to many types of experiences. Your mileage may vary.
In creating this Energetic Container participants are asked to follow these simple guidelines:
1. Please treat the dance floor as sacred space. Come with a reverence that sets the stage for an amazing experience. Come in early and start with sitting meditation/stretching. Let's build fantastic energy as a group from the beginning of the dance. Not a social setting, it is a setting conducive to this moving meditation.
2. Please don't engage in conversation on the dance floor unless we are all having a discussion as a group. This dance is for going deep. Talking brings people back out of that meditative state and disperses the energy. The time for socializing is after dance. You don't chat in a sitting meditation. Please observe that here as well.
3. Dance like no one is watching. Unlike club dancing, this is a safe alcohol/drug free environment with no outside or casual observers. In a club or social setting with many observers around, it is easy to feel a bit inhibited or shy about one's dance moves. Or conversely the need to show off. Or the need to take something to feel a little merrier or uninhibited. Nothing wrong with social dancing. It can be a lot of fun. This dance/moving meditation has a deeper purpose. Please help us create this environment of the Energetic Container for all of us in our inner work and energetic connection.
4. Respect the space of others in the dance. Dance with others by mutual agreement through eye contact and a smile. Respect those who who are engaged in their own inner dance and wish to dance alone.
You are encouraged to wear loose fitting dance, yoga or gym clothes. It is barefoot or soft dance sandals/shoes only. Bring water. Be ready for an energetic experience.
Anyone can do this dance. Come amaze yourself!
